MANAMA// With financial assistance from the UAE, Bahrain has begun an expansion to its international airport, which it hopes will help make the country a global aviation hub.
The project aims to increase the airport’s capacity to 14 million passengers per year, improving connectivity and delivering benefits for the country and the region.
A Dh3.4 billion grant is being provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and will cover more than 80 per cent of the project’s cost.
In an ceremony held in Bahrain, Mohammed Al Suwaidi, director general of the fund, and Abdul Khouri, the UAE Ambassador to Bahrain, witnessed Prince Khalifa bin Salman, prime minister of Bahrain, lay down the foundation stone for the project.
