DUBAI// Roads across the country were inundated with traffic as pupils returned to school after the Christmas holiday on Sunday morning.
Dubai Patrol and Traffic Department said internal roads - such as Al Khawaneej Road - were congested from Sharjah to Dubai, while traffic moved normally on external roads towards the capital.
“Airport Road also witnessed jam from the New Sheikhs Wing Intersection towards the old one,” they reported.
Motorists experienced delays on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road from the first bridge to the third one towards Dubai, as well as on Al Ittihad Road from Al Taawun Bridge in Sharjah towards Al Nahda Tunnel.
On Al Ribat Road, traffic was congested from Al Warqa Bridge towards Business Bay Crossing.
“The external roads as Sheikh Zayed, Emirates E311, Dubai-Al Ain and Jebel Ali Roads were free of congestion and had a normal movement,” the department said.
In Abu Dhabi, commuters were faced with delays on Sheikh Zayed Street after Dhafra Street at 7.35am due to a broken-down car which was cleared an hour later, according to the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transport.
