ABU DHABI // Fifty projects and 100 employees have qualified as candidates for the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.

The Abu Dhabi General Secretariat of the Executive Council announced the names of the eligible candidates on Tuesday after assessing all 621 entries from 51 government bodies.

Starting next month the council will conduct field visits to assess the remaining participants and programmes that qualify for awards in the Projects/Working Team and Chairman of the Executive Council Medal categories.

Assessors will visit candidates and conduct interviews with their supervisors and colleagues for the Chairman of the Executive Council Medal category and meet project directors for the Projects and Working Teams classification.

“The awards play an important role in bringing about a quantum leap in the performance and services provided by entities and institutions,” said Mr Yasir Al Naqbi, director of the office of the Abu Dhabi Award for Excellence in Government Performance.

He said the awards had contributed to the development of government and the entrenchment of a culture of excellence in its sectors.

This was highlighted, he said, by the increase of candidates by 20 per cent this year.

The criteria for the Abu Dhabi government workers put forward for the Chairman of the Executive Council Medal will include 10 categories, including long-service, administrative supervisor, executive director, administrative support, technical, engineering, field work, and new employee.

The Projects/Working Teams category will focus on the best collective practices in government bodies.

The award winners will be announced during a ceremony in November.
