Tuesday is Arabic Language Day, so what better time to learn a few new words?
Five members of The National's staff from five different Arabic-speaking countries, including the UAE, shared their favourite phrases from their own dialects.
Arabic Language Day was established by Unesco in 2010.
The day seeks to celebrate one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. As part of the day's celebrations, The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation launched the hashtag #بالعربي on Twitter.
The hashtag translates to "In Arabic" and encourages more social media users to spend the day speaking the language.
