An annual mobile breast screening campaign is set to begin touring the UAE to offer free check-ups to patients.

Known as the Pink Caravan, 30 busses with on board clinics will travel to all seven emirates between February 21 and March 2.

The units aim to continue to improve rates of early diagnosis of breast cancer throughout the country.

The service - available to men and women – is already in its ninth year, and has provided check-ups to close to 50,000 people.

“New approaches to strengthening a culture of awareness are at the heart of this ride,” said Dr Sawsan Al Madhi, one of the organisers of the scheme.

“This year we are bringing genetic testing to make breast cancer treatment more effective.”

The mobile clinics will travel to Sharjah, Ajman and Dubai on February 23, 24 and 25 respectively.

They will then go on to cover Umm Al Quwain on February 26, Fujairah on the 27th, Ras Al Khaimah on the 28th and Abu Dhabi on March 1.

A fixed clinic Abu Dhabi will also be set up at Marina Mall to provide free consultations and screenings every day between February 21 and March 2.
