ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi Municipality has raised a blue flag signifying environmental sustainability at Al Bateen Ladies Beach.

The Emirates Wildlife Society awarded the beach with the Blue Flag, which is granted for one season for sustainable development of beaches and marinas.

The flag is awarded based on 32 international guidelines on environmental awareness information, water quality, environmental management and safety and services, said Musabbah Al Murar, acting general manager of the municipality.

The Corniche and Al Bateen swimming beaches, as well as the Lagoon beach on the Corniche, have also achieved blue-flag status.

“This event is a new iconic achievement added to the galaxy of distinguished achievement of Abu Dhabi city and the Abu Dhabi City Municipality,” said Mr Al Murar.

The Ladies Beach, staffed by women, is open to women and boys under the age 6. It first opened for a trial period in June.
