It takes man many years of living to gain experience, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, told pupils at Al Mushrif School yesterday.
"But through reading, man can live tens of experiences in a matter of hours", he added during the visit, which was arranged to promote the Abu Dhabi Reads campaign.
Aimed at schoolchildren, it was launched by Abu Dhabi Education Council on April 11 and runs until the end of the month.
Sheikh Abdullah was given a tour of the school, observed classes and read a story to pupils about reading and exploration.
The youngsters returned the favour by presenting him with a book entitled I Love You, My Country, which Sheikh Abdullah commended for its encouragement of good behaviour.
