ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi Police have seized more than 38 kilograms of hashish stored in coffee packaging.
The drugs were found hidden in the boot of a vehicle belonging to a 24-year-old from a Gulf country and his female companion of the same age and nationality, who were driving around the city, police said on Wednesday.
The man had been under surveillance by the anti-narcotics team after investigations showed he possessed drugs, said Col Sultan Al Darmaki, head of the anti-drug section at Abu Dhabi Police.
Police said they found 38.8kg of hashish in the car boot, as well as pills, joints and other suspicious material for drug abuse.
The suspect confessed to owning the seized items and his companion confessed to knowing that he abused drugs, police said.
The suspects and seized items have been referred to the relevant authorities to continue the investigation.
