ABU DHABI // Drivers can pay traffic and parking fines in instalments until November 30.

Brig Hussein Al Harthi, head of Abu Dhabi traffic police, said the grace period had been extended, the state news agency, Wam, reported.

He said all branches of the force in Abu Dhabi city, Al Ain and Al Gharbia would allow drivers with at least Dh1,000 in fines for more than one offence to pay the total in two instalments.

Nearly 3,000 drivers have availed of the instalment scheme during the previous three months’ grace period. The highest amount paid for traffic and Mawaqif parking fines was Dh60,000.

“Vehicle owners can approach Mawaqif at all times to submit their queries, grievances and opinions regarding their violations,” said Mohammed Hamad Al Muhairi, director-general of the Mawaqif division at the Department of Transport.

“A designated committee will look into all grievances, and take immediate decision to avoid delay in vehicle license renewals.”

This easy payment option is applicable only for traffic fines issued to vehicles registered to individuals, and not to companies and organisations.

The instalment scheme does not cover cars with foreign, export or temporary number plates.

Motorists can also pay fines incurred in other GCC countries.

The remaining 50 per cent of the fine should be paid within a year.

Motorists who wish to sell, export, issue a tourist round-trip certificate or transfer the car within the UAE must first settle their traffic fines.
