ABU DHABI // A series of educational events led by staff from The National begins tonight.
A Night With The National's inaugural outing will see a group of readers take part in a photography workshop with Brian Kerrigan, the paper's photo editor.
The group of 11, whittled down from almost 100 applicants, will meet at the Mercure Central Hotel on Hamdan Street, at 6pm.
There they will be given a short tutorial on street photography, how to use the camera they will be shooting with - the Fujifilm X100S - and what to expect when they are sent out on their assignment.
In the last part of the workshop, the group will have their work edited and will receive feedback, with some pictures being chosen to run in the paper.
Other workshops in the series are still being planned but will focus on fashion, arts-related events and cooking, the last of which will involve a demonstration.
"We hope A Night With The National will give back to our readers, catering to their interests and sparking continued dialogue with the paper," said Hassan Fattah, the editor-in-chief.
"We encourage readers to participate in the latest events by checking the paper or following us on Facebook to learn more.
"The National is committed to engaging our community of sophisticated readers, and sharing the knowledge of our many talented editors and reporters across a variety of topics."
