FUJAIRAH // There were 68 accidents in the past seven months on one road in the emirate, but none of them led to death or serious injuries, Fujairah Police said today.
The accidents happened on Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Road in Fujairah between December of last year and June of this year, according to a statistics report from police.
Only three mild injuries were reported on the road in that time span, and 95 per cent of the accidents involved motorists who crashed into concrete blocks or bumped into other cars, said Col Mohammed bin Nayea, Deputy Chief of Fujairah Police.
Police plan to hire a well-known company to instal vital road signs in order to ensure more safety on Khalifa bin Zayed Road, Col bin Nayea said.
Traffic signs will include many non-traffic-related indicators that warn motorists about mountainous areas during the rainy season, as well as landslides.
Police recently conducted a survey among road users to determine what they thought the optimum speed limit should be. Results showed that the speed limit for the 14-kilometre stretch of road should be 140 kilometres per hour, rather than the 120 kph limit that has been observed since the road was opened.
