ABU DHABI // The Zakat Fund has come to the aid of divorced Emirati women and their children, spending Dh12.3 million in the first half of this year.
As part of the Cohesion Project, some 445 women received aid to reach an acceptable standard of living, according to state news agency Wam.
The fund also gives assistance to the poor and needy for school fees and emergency payments.
Abdullah bin Aqeeda Al Muhairi, secretary general of the Zakat Fund, said it was part of the nation’s leaders’ aims to achieve social responsibility by helping women and their children access basic requirements.
Citizens can submit requests via the Zakat Fund website, zakatfund.ae, and a research committee approves the amounts to be handed out to women, he said.
