They had an empty shopping trolley each, a supermarket packed with groceries and the chance to grab whatever they liked for free.
The only catch for the shoppers was that they had just 90 seconds to complete their spree.
The five had won the chance to take part in the dash around the aisles of Geant Hypermarket following a social media competition held by DubaiAM.
The event - reminiscent of hit TV show Supermarket Sweep - was organised by Dubai Asset Management, the owner and manager of one of the emirate's largest portfolios of residential communities.
Contestants busily emptied shelves before racing for the checkout. They were: Joan Cusay, from Al Khail Gate; Tinoosh Khaleghi from Shorooq in Mirdif; Vivek Panicker, from Ghoroob; Zanal Afzal, from villa and apartment complex Layan; and Riza Redondo, from Remraam.
Each entrant was given one trolley to fill with as many items as they could during the allotted time.
They were selected at random following the social media competition.
