About 2,000 Emiratis with disabilities are to learn about agriculture at a farm in Al Yahar.
The farm will take its first batch of students from the Al Ain Centre for Care and Rehabilitation by the end of the year, said Mohammed Khamis Al Haddadi, the centre’s head.
Mr Al Haddadi told Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister paper of The National, that hundreds of palm trees had been planted at the farm, which has been established by the Zayed Higher Organisation for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs. Classes have been designed to offer students a comprehensive and sustainable work environment.
Working at the farm will be easy and safe, encouraging growth and production, Mr Al Haddadi said. Students will be paid Dh2,500 a month to train there, and will receive regular aid from the Ministry of Social Affairs.
There are 202 Emiratis with mild disabilities registered with the centre, including 110 adults involved in various workshops and 87 youngsters who study at its cooperative education centre.
