SHARJAH // A 16-month-old boy has fallen to his death from a fifth-floor window at his family’s apartment in Al Majjarah.
The Indian child was temporarily left alone in the living room on Friday afternoon, climbed on to a dining table and fell through an open window. He died instantly.
The boy’s parents told police the accident happened when his mother went to the kitchen to prepare food for the boy and the father went to the bathroom.
The father took his son to Al Zahra hospital, where the child was pronounced dead.
Col Sultan Al Khayal, director of the awareness section at Sharjah Police, urged parents to be cautious when looking after their children and to secure all windows and balconies.
He called on developers and building owners to install safety measures to prevent similar accidents.
