The National’s Sport cover for the Wednesday, July 1 issue, featuring Simona Halep as the third seed crashed out of the Wimbled in first round.
It was one of two major-profile early exits in the women's tournament on Tuesday, as Eugenie Bouchard continued a dismal season with SW19 disappointment.
“I hadn’t practised that much,” Bouchard said, indicating she was still feeling the effects of a recent abdominal injury.
“My timing was off. It’s not an excuse because I chose to play.”
Canadian 21-year-old Bouchard was beaten by Chinese qualifier Duan Ying-Ying 7-6 (7/3), 6-4. Meanwhile Jana Cepelova downed 23-year-old Halep, a French Open finalist last year, 5-7, 6-4, 6-3.
