The National’s Sport cover for the Wednesday, November 5 issue, featuring a Manchester City side aiming to turn around their European fortunes.
City face off with CSKA Moscow on Wednesday night in a match that – should they lose – could spell doom for the Premier League champions’ hopes of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stages.
Previewing the match, Richard Jolly writes:
“The bare facts are that Manchester City have yet to win a game in Europe this season. Their manager remains hopeful they could win the Uefa Champions League.
“If it highlights the gap between City’s present problems and their lofty aspirations, Manuel Pellegrini feels there are grounds for optimism.”
Pellegrini’s thinking, explains Jolly, is that “if City get through the group stages, then anything becomes possible”.
In order to get through the group stage, a win Wednesday night would help.
