Video: 22 years on from this kickabout, Kasper Schmeichel returns to Man United on verge of league title

On Sunday evening, Leicester City could complete the most remarkable league title triumph in English football history. That it could be achieved at the home of the record winners, Manchester United, feels a fitting conclusion to a fairy-tale season.

Central to Leicester’s season has been the man between the posts, Kasper Schmeichel, who has kept a league-equalling 15 clean sheets.

For so long stuck in the considerable shadow of his famous father, Peter, Kasper has emerged as a legitimate top-class goalkeeper in his own right. He now has the chance to win his first Premier League title inside the stadium where his dad was instrumental to United winning five of their 20 titles.

Given the context of the match, we thought it appropriate to dig this clip out of the archives from 1994 that shows a young Kasper, looking every bit a mini-Peter, enjoying a kickabout with two other professional footballer sons of then Manchester United players. Derby County forward Thomas Ince, the son of former United and England midfielder Paul Ince, and Hull City defender Alex Bruce, the son of former United captain Steve Bruce, join Kasper in a game behind the scenes at Manchester United.

And to think, 22 years later, one is on the verge of a Premier League title, and the other two are enjoying successful careers in the Championship. Football really is a funny old game.
