The World Cup has not started and already the UAE’s players are ticking boxes off their cricketing bucket lists.
The real business is looming large. That much is obvious from the fact the national team yesterday trained at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the 100,000-capacity arena that will stage the final at the end of March.
They will be playing there in an official tournament warm-up match against Australia today. It is not obvious which will be more exhilarating – the prospect of facing Mitchell Johnson, or the chance to play at one of the sport’s most celebrated venues.

Even Khurram Khan, the venerable leading player of UAE cricket, is eager.
In his role as an Emirates Airline cabin crew member, Khurram has been a frequent visitor to Melbourne in the past and often stayed in a hotel with a view of the stadium.
He never went in, though, preferring to save that for the off-chance he might one day be a player there.
“I have never walked into the stadium because I have always wanted to play there so it is a huge moment,” Khurram said yesterday.
Australia clearly are not expecting too much of a test from the UAE.
Michael Clarke, the home captain, will make his comeback from injury in this fixture, although he is then going to be rested when Australia play England later in the week.
Aaqib Javed, the coach, pointed out his side are there to play “hard cricket” rather than simply provide practice for their celebrated opponents.
“We’ve been doing really well at Associate level, but this is the next stage,” Aaqib said yesterday in Melbourne.
“We know there is a gap, but I think we can push really hard some of the international sides.
“There are phases in the game when the strongest teams give you a chance to sneak in and exploit the soft part of the game.”

At the weekend, Mohammed Tauqir, the UAE captain, said his side will not be daunted by playing at the MCG.
“We are looking forward to that game,” Tauqir said. “We’ve been practising, we’ve been training hard over the last six months and we are looking forward to play Australia at MCG.
“We don’t really feel daunted by it.
“All the boys are very, very excited and confident and positive. It’s a dream come true for all of us.”

Libya's Gold
UN Panel of Experts found regime secretly sold a fifth of the country's gold reserves.
The panel’s 2017 report followed a trail to West Africa where large sums of cash and gold were hidden by Abdullah Al Senussi, Qaddafi’s former intelligence chief, in 2011.
Cases filled with cash that was said to amount to $560m in 100 dollar notes, that was kept by a group of Libyans in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
A second stash was said to have been held in Accra, Ghana, inside boxes at the local offices of an international human rights organisation based in France.

The flights
There are various ways of getting to the southern Serengeti in Tanzania from the UAE. The exact route and airstrip depends on your overall trip itinerary and which camp you’re staying at.

Keep it fun and engaging
Stuart Ritchie, director of wealth advice at AES International, says children cannot learn something overnight, so it helps to have a fun routine that keeps them engaged and interested.
“I explain to my daughter that the money I draw from an ATM or the money on my bank card doesn’t just magically appear – it’s money I have earned from my job. I show her how this works by giving her little chores around the house so she can earn pocket money,” says Mr Ritchie.
His daughter is allowed to spend half of her pocket money, while the other half goes into a bank account. When this money hits a certain milestone, Mr Ritchie rewards his daughter with a small lump sum.

1. Build digital or technical skills: After graduation, people can find it extremely hard to find jobs. From programming to digital marketing, your early twenties are for building skills. Future employers will want people with tech skills.
2. Side hustle: At 16, I lived in a village and started teaching online, as well as doing work as a virtual assistant and marketer. There are six skills you can use online: translation; teaching; programming; digital marketing; design and writing. If you master two, you’ll always be able to make money.
3. Networking: Knowing how to make connections is extremely useful. Use LinkedIn to find people who have the job you want, connect and ask to meet for coffee. Ask how they did it and if they know anyone who can help you. I secured quite a few clients this way.
4. Pay yourself first: The minute you receive any income, put about 15 per cent aside into a savings account you won’t touch, to go towards your emergency fund or to start investing. I do 20 per cent. It helped me start saving immediately.
