UAE U19 cricket earn consolation with final victory over Hong Kong

The UAE drew some consolation with victory over Hong Kong in the play-off for third spot in the ICC Under 19 World Cup Qualifying Asia Division 2.

Ali Mirza and Jonathan Figy starred in the game with a 129-run stand for the third wicket for their team to chase down the target for the loss of four wickets at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Mirza smashed 75 not out and Figy fell one run short of his half century as the UAE made 166 for four in 35.4 overs in reply to Hong Kong’s 165 all out in 45.3 overs.

Karthik Meiyappan and Fahad Nawaz were the pick of the UAE bowlers, taking three wickets each.

Malaysia won the Division 2 qualifier from Singapore. They both will now join Afghanistan and Nepal in the four-team Division 1 Qualifier in Sri Lanka on December.

The winner of this competition will earn a ticket to the U19 World Cup in New Zealand on January 2018.
