Sunderland
Watford have signed goalkeeper Costel Pantilimon from Sunderland to provide competition for Heurelho Gomes.
The 28-year-old Romanian started the season as Sunderland’s first-choice goalkeeper but he has not played since a 3-1 defeat at Chelsea a month ago. The Romania international was not included in the last three matchday squads.
Watford, currently 12th in the English Premier League after a 1-0 loss at Swansea City on Monday, gain a goalkeeper with more than 50 appearances in the English top flight.
Pantilimon made seven league appearances for Manchester City in a three-year spell at the club before joining Sunderland in 2014.
Inter Milan
Inter Milan announced on Tuesday they had cancelled the contract of former Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic, who had yet to make an appearance this season.
Vidic missed the first half of the campaign after undergoing a hernia operation in August, with the ex-Serbia international now a free agent.
The 34-year-old joined Inter on a free transfer from United in 2014 and played 28 times for the Serie A club last season.
“I would like to thank the Nerazzuri family and the Inter fans. I would like to wish the club the greatest success in the future,” Vidic said in a message on the club’s website.
Vidic won five Premier League titles in eight and a half years at Old Trafford, as well as the 2007-08 Champions League.
Arsenal
Arsenal left back Nacho Monreal has extended his contract with the Premier League leaders, the London club said on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old, linked with a return to his native Spain by British media, has made more than 80 Premier League appearances for the Gunners, including a number at centre-back.
“I’m really happy because my intention was to keep playing for Arsenal. I feel really good playing here,” Monreal told the club’s website (www.arsenal.com).
“I wanted to stay here and I could extend my contract. I would like to play here for many more years.”
Monreal, who joined Arsenal from Spanish side Malaga in 2013, has featured in all 22 league matches this season, helping the team keep 10 clean sheets.
Arsenal host champions Chelsea, who are 14th in the table, on Sunday.
Juventus
Italian champions Juventus on Tuesday announced the signing of 18-year-old midfielder Rolando Mandragora from Serie A rivals Genoa.
Mandragora, tipped as an Italy star of the future, has signed a five-year contract with Juventus but will remain on loan at second-division Pescara until the end of the season.
Juventus, who are seeking a fifth straight Serie A title, paid an initial six million euros ($6.5m) for Mandragora although the transfer fee could rise to 12 million euros ($13m) depending on his success with the Turin giants.
Mandragora has drawn comparisons to Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti, who came through the Pescara academy before joining Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.
Mandragora made a handful of appearances for Genoa in Serie A last season and has been capped six times by Italy’s Under-21 side.
Norwich City
Norwich made their fourth signing of the January transfer window as the Premier League club swooped for Wolfsburg defender Timm Klose on Monday.
Switzerland centre-back Klose agreed a three-and-half-year contract with the Canaries, subject to governing body approval, for an undisclosed fee.
Matt Jarvis, Ivo Pinto and Ben Godfrey have already moved to Carrow Road this month as manager Alex Neil continues to bolster his squad for the fight against relegation.
Neil, who is also reportedly on the verge of signing Everton forward Steven Naismith, said Klose’s Champions League experience was a significant factor in his decision to sign him.
“Timm has got plenty of experience having played in the Bundesliga, in the Champions League and for his country, which will be an asset to us,” Neil told Norwich’s website.
“As a player, he’s got good technical ability and he’s solid in the air. He can also play at either right centre-back or left centre-back.”
The 27-year-old defender, who played against Manchester United in the Champions League this season, added: “It was always a dream to play in the Premier League and Norwich have given me a big chance.
“Now I want to give everything I can to be a good player in this league.”
Manchester City
Manchester City have loaned new signing Anthony Caceres to sister club Melbourne City for the rest of the A-League season.
Manuel Pellegrini’s side signed the 23-year-old midfielder last week from Central Coast Mariners for an undisclosed fee.
Caceres is not an international and was never going to challenge for a place in the Manchester City team, and the transfer has caused some consternation in Australia.
A-League clubs are not permitted to sign players for a fee from each other, but Caceres’ move to Manchester City has allowed Melbourne to recruit one of the most highly-sought-after players in the division.
Sydney FC chief executive Tony Pignata called for a review of the rules and wrote on Twitter: “The loaning of Caceres to City is wrong.”
Watford
Watford have signed Morocco winger Nordin Amrabat from Spanish side Malaga, the Premier League club announced on Monday.
Amrabat, 28, agreed a three and a half year contract with the Hornets and will link up with Quique Sanchez Flores’ squad after Monday’s league match at Swansea.
“He has the qualities of the players we like,” Sanchez Flores said.
“He can play at number 10; he holds the ball, he can turn quickly with the strength of a striker and escape the defensive line.
“He can also play as a winger because he has that pace and velocity - the power that adds to the options of a team.”
Celtic
Anthony Stokes has re-joined Hibernian on loan from Celtic until the end of the season.
The 27-year-old striker played for the Edinburgh side between 2009 and 2010, when his tally of 24 goals in 48 matches earned him a move to Parkhead.
Now Stokes has returned to Easter Road in search of first-team football, having only appeared for Celtic twice this campaign.
Hibs head coach Alan Stubbs said: “Anthony is a fantastic footballer and will really strengthen the squad.
“We have a number of options in attack and real competition for places which is what every manager wants.
“We are excited about Anthony coming here and I think he will prove to be a real asset.”
Stokes last featured for Ronny Deila’s team in August and was forced to apologise after sending an ill-judged tweet when left in the stands at Inverness last month.
