Santiago Cazorla is closing in on a move from crisis-club Malaga to Arsenal

Newcastle United are set to make a fresh move for French defender Mathieu Debuchy, according to reports from the UK.

It is understood Alan Pardew, the Newcastle United manager, has stepped up his protracted pursuit of the 27-year-old defender, after failing to strengthen his senior squad so far this summer.

Lille are believed to want around EU8m (Dh36m) for the Euro 2012 player, who has indicated his desire to join international teammate Yohan Cabaye at St James' Park.

Wigan Athletic are set to sign Ivan Ramis after the Spanish director opted to join countryman Roberto Martinez rather than move to West Ham.

Real Mallorca had agreed a deal with West Ham for the 27-year-old, who turned down the move.

"He has passed his medical and it is being concluded," Whelan told Wigan Today.  "It's down to the influence of Roberto because the player doesn't speak English and didn't want to go to West Ham."

Ironically, the defender's first appearance in Wigan's colours could come against his former side - a friendly has been organised Mallorca for this weekend.

Ron Vlaar hopes he can help bring back the good times to Aston Villa after finally completing his protracted £3m (Dh17.1m) move to the English Premier League club.

The Holland international, who was part of his country's Euro 2012 squad, has signed a three-year deal with Paul Lambert's side club after making the switch from Feyenoord.

Vlaar, 27, is convinced his best years are ahead of him after committing to Villa until the end of the 2014-2015 campaign and wants to bring success back to the club after two disappointing seasons.

"This is a dream come true for me," said Vlaar.

"I am very happy that Villa have given me this chance. I really believe we can bring the happiness back.

"I think there is a lot of quality here and, if we play like we can as a team, we will make it difficult for other teams to beat us."

Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Santiago Cazorla and could complete a move for the Spanish international by the end of the weekend.

Reports from the UK indicate the midfielder, who is keen to leave crisis-ridden Malaga, is ready to move to the English Premier League side after agreeing personal terms.

He is understood to be due into London for a medical.

The Qatar-owned La Liga side have been plagued with problems this summer, and are thought to be ready to accept £17m bid for the 27-year-old.
