The top 5 run scorers from the Pakistan v South Africa ODI series

With a chance to go up 4-1 in the Pakistan v South Africa ODI series today, one would figure that the Proteas, who have have three convincing wins over Pakistan, would easily dominate the top run scorers list.

It is surprisingly, though, the top Pakistani scorers who have secured most of the total runs in the series, with South Africa employing perhaps a more conservative approach that has served them well.

With the South African bowlers decimating the rest of the Pakistani lineup, their top batsmen have been effectively neutralised.

But, with four more matches in the series scheduled, including today's, there's still a chance to turn it around. Before they face off in Sharjah, take a look at the men with the most runs from the first four games.

1. Ahmed Shehzad, Pakistan, 191: The opener has been a consistent force at the top of the order for Pakistan, striking half-centuries in the opening two games in Sharjah and Dubai, with his lowest score in four innings being 32, made in the third one-dayer in Abu Dhabi.

2. Quinton de Kock, South Africa, 152: The batsman, 20, has made an impressive contribution, especially considering he did not play in the first two matches. His 112 in the fourth ODI, in Abu Dhabi on Friday, was his maiden international hundred and a promising career now seems on the horizon.

3. Misbah-ul-Haq, Pakistan, 140: Misbah will almost certainly end the series as the losing captain, but it has not been for the want of trying in terms of his own contributions with the bat. His tenacious 65 in the fourth ODI kept his side in the hunt to keep the series alive, before the lower order collapsed so spectacularly to lose the match.

4. JP Duminy, South Africa, 134: Not the most spectacular series for the all-rounder, with three scores in the twenties, but his gritty 64 in the third ODI in Abu Dhabi kept the South Africa innings on track and ensured they posted a score that proved too much for Pakistan to chase in response.

5. Mohammad Hafeez, Pakistan, 102: Dropped from the Test side, Hafeez has proved solid, if unremarkable, on the UAE wickets in the ODI format. His highest score came on Friday with 33 at Abu Dhabi's Zayed Cricket Stadium, but his other scores of 28, 26 and 15 are unlikely to have boosted his calls for a Test recall.
