Caroline Wozniacki warmed up for next week's US Open with a morale-boosting win in the final of the New Haven Open today.
The world No 1 was too strong for the Czech qualifier Petra Cetkovska, winning 6-4, 6-1 despite a lengthy rain delay in the first set.
The final was brought forward by four hours in an attempt to avoid Hurricane Irene and the earlier start seemed to knock Cetkovska out of her stride.
After wins against the fifth seed Agnieszka Radwanska, the fourth seed Marion Bartoli and the No 2 seed Li Na, the 26-year-old was in perfect shape to cause another upset.
But she found Wozniacki an altogether different prospect as she was broken six times by the Dane, who clinched her sixth title of the year and fourth in a row in New Haven.
Wozniacki will now head to New York as she bids to claim her maiden grand slam crown.
Elsewhere, Sabine Lisicki enjoyed a straightforward victory over Aravane Rezai to claim the Texas Open title in Dallas.
The world No 23 had taken just 53 minutes to defeat Irina-Camelia Begu in yesterday's semi-final and today she was even more businesslike, wrapping up a 6-2, 6-1 win over qualifier Rezai in 49 minutes.
After each player held serve for the first five games, Lisicki won nine of the final 10.
Rezai enjoyed little success on her serve and did not manage to force any break points while Lisicki converted four of her five break opportunities.
The pair will now head for the US Open where Lisicki is the No 22 seed.
