Half-centuries from Yuvraj Singh and Moises Henriques set up defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad for a winning start to the 2017 Indian Premier League season.
Sunrisers won the opening game of the tournament by 35 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Despite losing captain David Warner (14) early in the innings after they had been put into bat, Hyderabad kicked on as Shikhar Dhawan (40) and Henriques (52) put on 74 for the second wicket.
Henriques then put on 58 with Yuvraj, whose 62 off 27 balls included three sixes and seven boundaries before he was the last wicket to fall as Hyderabad finished on 207 for four off their 20 overs.
The Bangalore response had begun in solid fashion as Chris Gayle (32) and Mandeep Singh (24) put on an opening stand of 52 in 5.4 overs.
Despite both openers then falling quickly, Bangalore still looked poised to challenge when they sat at 116 for two, with Travis Head (30) and Kedar Jadhav (31) looking well set.
But the Bangalore innings then fell apart as they lost six wickets for 40 runs, with Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rashid Khan all weighing in with two wickets each.
Bangalore were dismissed for 172 with two balls of the innings remaining.
Thursday’s match sees Rising Pune Supergiant face Mumbai Indians. Bangalore will go for their first win again on Saturday at home to Delhi Daredevils, while Hyderabad are next in action on Sunday against Gujarat Lions.
