Cavendish overcame a four-second deficit on the final day of the cycling race to beat Germany’s John Degenkolb by six seconds for his Etixx-Quick Step team.
Covering the Saturday finale, Gary Meenaghan quotes Isle of Man native Cavendish crediting his team for the win:
“I’m super happy – it’s always nice to win, but winning is not new,” he said.
“What makes this so special is that Etixx Quick-Step just rode out of their skin for four days. We wanted it bad and had the fire in our eyes.”
