There was disappointment for Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed as she missed out on winning a medal at the Asian Games in Incheon on Tuesday.
Competing in the individual jumping equestrian event, she finished fourth after a jump-off competition that decided the medal positions.
A clean run, with no penalties in the jump-off, which was for the top 10 riders in the competition following two initial runs, was not enough as she missed out on the bronze medal to Japan’s Taizo Sugitani.
Both she and Sugitani had four penalty points going into the jump off, with the bronze going to Sugitani by way of his time of 30.95 seconds being quicker than Sheikha Latifa’s time of 32.34.
The gold medal went to Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Waleed Al Sharbatly, with the silver going to Japanese rider Satoshi Hirao.
Sheikha Latifa took silver in both individual and team jumping four years ago.
Elsewhere, there was another fourth place for the UAE in the men’s team-of-five bowling competition.
The quintet of Hussain Al Suwaidi, Nayef Jaber, Ali Al Shaker, Mahmood Al Attar and Hareb Al Mansoori finished level with China on 5,896 to be joint fourth, four pins adrift of Hong Kong, who took bronze, with South Korea claiming gold.
The UAE’s men’s skeet shooting team of Saif Al Mansoori, Mohammed Ahmed and Saeed Al Dhraif missed out on a medal by 10 points.
The trio finished sixth on 341, with the bronze medal won by South Korea on 351. The gold was won by China, with Kuwait taking the silver medal.
A throw of 50.05 metres earned Saber Al Meheiri 13th in the discus final. In sailing, Hamad Al Hammadi was 10th in the men’s Laser competition, with Mohammed Al Hammadi eighth in the men’s one-person dinghy and Salama Al Mansoori eighth in the women’s one-person dinghy.
