A fee is agreed between Al Jazira and Schalke for winger Jefferson Farfan and, according to a report from ESPN FC, Farfan himself has now agreed to move.
The 30-year-old Peru international is expected to complete a medical and then sign a three-year-deal with last season's Arabian Gulf League runners up, according to the report.
The Abu Dhabi club have been looking to complete their foreign quartet since a deal with AS Roma for Gervinho was scuttled last month.
Reports out of Germany first suggested on Wednesday that Farfan might be headed for the UAE.
Jazira have already seen off Jucilei to China and Manuel Lanzini on loan to West Ham United from last year’s foreign contingent. Burkina Faso international Jonathan Pitroipa is expected to move to make way for Farfan should the deal be completed, leaving only Montenegro and former Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic, who led the AGL in goals last season.
Farfan, though, on his own Facebook page on Thursday, wrote:
“I have heard and read much news and information about my exit from Schalke ... every year, the same thing occurs, many things come out in the media.
“The only real thing is that Schalke have informed me that I have to be in Germany on the 24th to start my pre-season.
“As always, happy to return and train with my club and have a good season.”
Farfan, after scoring 28 goals with 33 assists in 130 Bundesliga appearances with Schalke from 2009-14, went without scoring or assisting in just nine appearances in an injury-hit 2014/15 season in Germany.
