Sampdoria coach Domenico Di Carlo said he hopes the home crowd can help his side get the season off to a winning start tomorrow against Lazio. A loss to Werder Bremen this week knocked Sampdoria out of the Champions League but did not dampen their confidence for domestic competition. "Despite the loss, I saw the Samp team that I like," the coach said. "I saw the team that played a great campaign last season, with solid performances and character."
Sampdoria will be hoping to repeat their strong start of last year, when they won five of their first six league games. Lazio look to leave behind last season, when they were a disappointing 12th. "We had difficulties last season but now we are enthusiastic," coach Edy Reja said. "There is a new, positive air this season."
