Sachin Tendulkar has asked India's cricket fans to be more patient as the national team take on Pakistan in the second of three one-day internationals in Kolkata tomorrow.
Tendulkar, who spoke to the media for the first time since ending his 23-year ODI career last month, said MS Dhoni's men were going through a tough period and that it was just a phase.
India had to endure a difficult 2012 in all three forms of the game as they lost their first Test series at home since 2004 after failing to qualify for the Asia Cup one-day international competition and missing out on a semi-final berth at the World Twenty20.
But Tendulkar, the world's most successful batsman in 50-over cricket, was sympathetic toward his former teammates following their five-wicket defeat in the first ODI against Pakistan, in Chennai, on Sunday. The hosts are now faced with the prospect of losing another series if they are beaten at Eden Gardens in Kolkata tomorrow.
"I have no doubt that the team would bounce back," Tendulkar told reporters today. "Even though I am not with the team, my heart is with them.
"At this moment the team requires our support and wishes so that they can play good cricket."
Good batting, at the very least, is expected, with the strip expected to be flatter than the one at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Much to India's relief, Virat Kohli is available for selection after injuring his foot in the first ODI when the batsman slipped at the bowling crease.

Two-step truce
The UN-brokered ceasefire deal for Hodeidah will be implemented in two stages, with the first to be completed before the New Year begins, according to the Arab Coalition supporting the Yemeni government.
By midnight on December 31, the Houthi rebels will have to withdraw from the ports of Hodeidah, Ras Issa and Al Saqef, coalition officials told The National.
The second stage will be the complete withdrawal of all pro-government forces and rebels from Hodeidah city, to be completed by midnight on January 7.
The process is to be overseen by a Redeployment Co-ordination Committee (RCC) comprising UN monitors and representatives of the government and the rebels.
The agreement also calls the deployment of UN-supervised neutral forces in the city and the establishment of humanitarian corridors to ensure distribution of aid across the country.

What is a robo-adviser?
Robo-advisers use an online sign-up process to gauge an investor’s risk tolerance by feeding information such as their age, income, saving goals and investment history into an algorithm, which then assigns them an investment portfolio, ranging from more conservative to higher risk ones.
These portfolios are made up of exchange traded funds (ETFs) with exposure to indices such as US and global equities, fixed-income products like bonds, though exposure to real estate, commodity ETFs or gold is also possible.
Investing in ETFs allows robo-advisers to offer fees far lower than traditional investments, such as actively managed mutual funds bought through a bank or broker. Investors can buy ETFs directly via a brokerage, but with robo-advisers they benefit from investment portfolios matched to their risk tolerance as well as being user friendly.
Many robo-advisers charge what are called wrap fees, meaning there are no additional fees such as subscription or withdrawal fees, success fees or fees for rebalancing.
