After its successful debut in 2015, netball will return to this year’s Emirates Airline Dubai Rugby Sevens with an expanded tournament.

The Invitation Tournament will see 36 teams competing — up from 16 teams last year — in two categories, Gulf Women and Open Youth, with teams from around the Middle East expected to take part.

“It’s encouraging to see such a strong interest in the sport which is coming from all over the Middle East and we are delighted that 36 teams will be taking part in this year’s tournament,” Invitation Tournament Manager Jill Conlon said.

“The Netball Tournament not only complements the rest of the event but also provides even more sporting entertainment for everyone. We are looking forward to welcoming all players, supporters and general fans to the biggest three-day festival in the UAE.”

The Netball Tournament will take place over three days this year with Open Youth on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Gulf Women playing on Friday and Saturday.

The 2016 Dubai Rugby Sevens will take place on December 1-3 at The Sevens Stadium. Fiji will return as defending men’s champions, while Australia won the women’s title in 2015.
