Rameez Shahzad was the toast of the Alubond Tigers as he anchored them to a seven-wicket win over Red Flower Tourism in the final of the Al Dhaid Ramadan Cup.
Chasing 170 for a win, the Alubond Tigers got off to a jittery start, losing two early wickets, before Shahzad rescued the innings with a brilliant unbeaten 86.
Shahid Sadiquee contributed an attacking 45 to the chase and Amjad Gul made an unbeaten 23 as the Tigers won with three balls to spare.
Earlier, Amjad Javed (2-33), Sultan Ahmed (2-25) and Umair Ali (2-32) each took wickets as Red Flower Tourism, asked to bat first, put 169 for eight on the board. Ubadah Barmawar was the top contributor with 51, while Yassir Kaleem made 31. The knock took Kaleem’s aggregate for the tournament to 205 runs, and he later picked up the award for best batsman of the tournament.
Alubond Tigers’ Amjad Javed, who took nine wickets, was named the best bowler of the tournament, while Waqas Raja of Red Flower Tourism picked up the player of the tournament award.
Red Flower Tourism, though, followed the loss by winning at the Sharjah Ramadan Cup, where they defeated NTDE by eight wickets to book their place in the semis.
Raja played a part in the Red Flower win, taking two wickets for 15 as NTDE were bowled out for 114 in 18.5 overs. Anfal PM also had a two-wicket haul (2-20) and Mohammed Tariq bagged three wickets for 24, while Mohammed Fazil top scored with a 41 for NTDE.
Joining Red Flower Tourism in the semis are Multiplex International, who knocked out Alubond Tigers, as well as the Dubai Hawks and UBL.
Dubai Hawks drubbed Allmed by 120 runs, with Shahzad Malik (70) and Mohammed Usman (75 not out) putting the Allmed attack to the sword as the Hawks put a mammoth 259 for four on the board. Jamshed Ahmed and Ahmed Raza then took three wickets each as Allmed were dismissed for 139.
UBL defeated NMC by 64 runs with Mohammad Naveed (2 for 20), Humayun Ashraf (2 for 33) and Usman Saeed (2 for 30) helping restrict NMC to 135 for seven after Boota Mohammed had starred with the bat, smashing an unbeaten 69 as UBL put 199 for six on the board.
