ABU DHABI // The Czech Karel Jarolim is the new coach of Al Wahda and will take charge from the summer on a two-year contract, according to a club official.
Jarolim, 56, arrives at the club after a successful spell with Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia from 2011 to 2013, winning the Kings Cup and taking the club to a runners-up spot in both the Saudi league and the Asian Champions League (ACL).
However, the former Slavia Prague coach was dismissed three months after leading the Jeddah giants to the ACL final following a string of poor results.
Wahda completed their season last night under interim coach Josef Hickersberger - who took charge for the final three games - with a 2-2 draw against Al Jazira, capping a disappointing campaign that saw them fail to win a trophy and finish seventh in the Pro League.
Meanwhile, Al Jazira have confirmed Luis Milla will stay at the club for the duration of his contract, which ends after the 2013/14 season.
The Spanish manager endured a tough start to life at Jazira after taking over from Paolo Bonamigo at the end of February. He won just one of his first 11 games in all competitions, but a run of five league matches, including last night's draw, undefeated to end the season ensured Jazira finish third in the league.
Although they surrendered a 2-0 lead, the point was enough for them to finish above Baniyas, on the head-to-head rule, even if their Abu Dhabi rivals beat Al Wasl to draw level on 47 points tomorrow.
Fernandinho and Sultan Bargash put Jazira ahead before Papa Waigo, in the first half, and Mohammed Al Shehhi, in added time, scored to salvage a draw at Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium.
"We were very clear of our strategies from the time we took charge, and from the analysis we have done, we need to bring in fresh blood for the next season," Milla said. "For me, the team is above all. In my opinion, there are some players who have been too long in the team and they need to make way for fresh legs and youngsters in the club.
"It has been a hectic and intense three-and-a-half months for me at Jazira. I will take a break to be with my family and return on July 24 for the first training for next season."

Dubai ended a disappointing season with just their sixth league victory, away at relegated Kalba.
Abdullah Al Jamhi put Kalba ahead but a Rodrigo Vergilio double and a goal from Faisal Ali completed a turnaround for Dubai, which saw Rene Marsiglia's team finish fourth from bottom of the table.
