The pressure on Portsmouth manager Tony Adams continued to grow last night as the Premier League side and FA Cup holders were beaten 2-0 by the Championship side Swansea. Nathan Dyer opened the scoring in the 26th minute, before in first-half stoppage time Jason Scotland converted a penalty after Nadir Belhadj fouled Jordi Gomez to cap a miserable day for the Premier League strugglers.
Blue Square Premier Division side Torquay United's hopes of reaching the fifth round were shattered by an 87th minute goal from Elliott Ward which gave Coventry City a 1-0 win. Aston Villa were held to a goalless draw at Championship side Doncaster Rovers, while the all Premier League tie between Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers also produced no goals, while a Michael Turner and Ian Ashbee gave Hull City a 2-0 win over League One side Millwall.
Middlesbrough put their Premier League woes to one side as they won 2-1 at the Championship leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers. Afonso Alves and subsitute Marvin Emnes scored for Middlesbrough, while Sam Vokes netted for Wolves. Martin Paterson's equaliser earned Championship side Burnley a 2-2 draw at West Bromwich Albion. Robert Koren and Do-Heon Kim scored for West Brom, while Graham Alexander netted the other Burnley goal.
The two Championship teams through are Sheffield United, who defeated Charlton Athletic 2-1, and Watford, who beat Crystal Palace 4-3.
