World champion Khabib Nurmagomedov watched his cousin Usman stretch his winning streak to 10-0 during a dramatic night at UAE Warriors 12.
The event at Abu Dhabi's Mubadala Arena was held behind closed doors but live on Abu Dhabi Sports and gave fans a glimpse of lightweight superstar Khabib supporting Usman on his big night.
Appearing in the catchweight 71kg, Usman took-down his Finnish opponent Jerry Kvarnstrom with a judo sweep, and then landed a barrage of punches before the referee stopped the contest in round one.
Bruno Machado and Lee Do-gyeom proved they have the talent to step up to UFC level after emerging resounding winners of their Mixed Martial Art title fights, the highlights of the 10-fight card.
Machado, 33, took his record to 12-9 and is undefeated in three UAE Warriors appearances after stopping former UFC fighter Mike Santiago in round two with an anaconda choke to take the all-comers lightweight title.
“I know my level,” the Abu Dhabi based Brazilian said after his title win. “I can show everyone I have UFC level.
“I know he (Santiago) is high level. He has had three fights in the UFC. He is a tough guy.
“I throw a lot of hard punches at him but he stood at the centre. I was a bit shocked at the beginning when I punched straight with my elbow but he came forward.
“He hit me and I was like ‘aah, aah’. But thank you so much for Mike to travel all the way from the US to face me with just under two weeks of preparation for this fight.”
Machado dominated the fight and landed more punches to leave Santiago’s nose bloodied. He then continued to score from punches before taking the American down with a judo sweep.
“I wanted to punch him more but I heard my corner saying to take him down,” he said after using his jiu-jitsu skills to turn over Santiago for the anaconda choke.
“He didn’t tap to stop the fight and that shows he is tough. Of course, now I’m looking forward to defend this title and hopefully I can face Danny Moore (whom he was originally slated to meet before being ruled out after testing positive for Covid-19).
“I want to prove my level as same as the UFC, and I wish I get the opportunity.”
Lee ended Romanian Alexandru Chitoran’s four-fight unbeaten run with a crushing right knee to the jaw to retain his featherweight title in round one.
“As usual, I bring several martial arts in my game and I was glad that I managed to win the fight in the first round,” Lee said.
“The UAE Warriors has taken me to the next level and I want to represent the UAE Warriors at the UFC. ‘Hello UFC, if you want to call us, call us, we want to represent this organisation at the next level’.
“In South Korea we have a hell of a team down there, and last but not the least, I want to thank my coach Mario Kim to bring me to this level.”
Ahmed Al Darmaki paid the ultimate price for a moment of madness after winning his bout against debutant Bogdan Kirilenko of Uzbekistan.
The Emirati had his opponent in a rear-naked choke towards the end of round one but after Kirilenko tapped out, Al Darmaki refused to let go of his neck.
Referee Marc Goddard tried to pull away Al Darmaki’s hold, and the Emirati reacted by pushing him multiple times. As a result, Al Darmaki was disqualified and Bogdan declared the winner.
Yousef Al Housani secured his second win in as many professional appearances, taking just 19 seconds to floor Indian Mohamed Fargan, a late replacement for Sri Lankan Mohamed Arsharq Ali.

Mercer, the investment consulting arm of US services company Marsh & McLennan, expects its wealth division to at least double its assets under management (AUM) in the Middle East as wealth in the region continues to grow despite economic headwinds, a company official said.
Mercer Wealth, which globally has $160 billion in AUM, plans to boost its AUM in the region to $2-$3bn in the next 2-3 years from the present $1bn, said Yasir AbuShaban, a Dubai-based principal with Mercer Wealth.
“Within the next two to three years, we are looking at reaching $2 to $3 billion as a conservative estimate and we do see an opportunity to do so,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Mercer does not directly make investments, but allocates clients’ money they have discretion to, to professional asset managers. They also provide advice to clients.
“We have buying power. We can negotiate on their (client’s) behalf with asset managers to provide them lower fees than they otherwise would have to get on their own,” he added.
Mercer Wealth’s clients include sovereign wealth funds, family offices, and insurance companies among others.
From its office in Dubai, Mercer also looks after Africa, India and Turkey, where they also see opportunity for growth.
Wealth creation in Middle East and Africa (MEA) grew 8.5 per cent to $8.1 trillion last year from $7.5tn in 2015, higher than last year’s global average of 6 per cent and the second-highest growth in a region after Asia-Pacific which grew 9.9 per cent, according to consultancy Boston Consulting Group (BCG). In the region, where wealth grew just 1.9 per cent in 2015 compared with 2014, a pickup in oil prices has helped in wealth generation.
BCG is forecasting MEA wealth will rise to $12tn by 2021, growing at an annual average of 8 per cent.
Drivers of wealth generation in the region will be split evenly between new wealth creation and growth of performance of existing assets, according to BCG.
Another general trend in the region is clients’ looking for a comprehensive approach to investing, according to Mr AbuShaban.
“Institutional investors or some of the families are seeing a slowdown in the available capital they have to invest and in that sense they are looking at optimizing the way they manage their portfolios and making sure they are not investing haphazardly and different parts of their investment are working together,” said Mr AbuShaban.
Some clients also have a higher appetite for risk, given the low interest-rate environment that does not provide enough yield for some institutional investors. These clients are keen to invest in illiquid assets, such as private equity and infrastructure.
“What we have seen is a desire for higher returns in what has been a low-return environment specifically in various fixed income or bonds,” he said.
“In this environment, we have seen a de facto increase in the risk that clients are taking in things like illiquid investments, private equity investments, infrastructure and private debt, those kind of investments were higher illiquidity results in incrementally higher returns.”
The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, one of the largest sovereign wealth funds, said in its 2016 report that has gradually increased its exposure in direct private equity and private credit transactions, mainly in Asian markets and especially in China and India. The authority’s private equity department focused on structured equities owing to “their defensive characteristics.”

HOW DO SIM CARD SCAMS WORK?
Sim swap frauds are a form of identity theft.
They involve criminals conning mobile phone operators into issuing them with replacement Sim cards, often by claiming their phone has been lost or stolen
They use the victim's personal details - obtained through criminal methods - to convince such companies of their identity.
The criminal can then access any online service that requires security codes to be sent to a user's mobile phone, such as banking services.
