Veteran golfer Lee Westwood took the honours at last weekend's Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship as the 46-year-old clinched his 25th European Tour title.

The former world No 1 held the overnight lead and never relinquished it, carding a final-round 67 to finish on 19-under par.

In a quick turnaround in the UAE, Westwood then headed over to Dubai for the Desert Classic that started on Thursday.

Alas, there was no more heroics as the Englishman finished day one a whopping six-over par, eleven shots behind early leader Thomas Pieters of Belgium.

In Premier League football, runaway leaders Liverpool outclassed their old rivals Manchester United by winning 2-0 at Anfield.

Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah grabbed the goals to take another step towards the title and heap more pressure on United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian's week would get even worse, though, when his team slumped to a first Premier League home defeat by Burnley at Old Trafford.

In mixed martial arts, Conor McGregor made a successful return to the UFC with a first-round knockout of Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone in Las Vegas.
