The great and the good of the cycling world were back in the UAE this week and the sport's new superstar would emerge victorious.

Slovenian rider, and reigning Tour de France champion, Tadej Pogacar won his first UAE Tour title in superb style, despite being docked 10 seconds for pushing on the penultimate stage.

The UAE Team Emirates rider held off the threat of main rival Adam Yates to seal victory by 35 seconds in Abu Dhabi.

In tennis, the remarkable Novak Djokovic demolished Daniil Medvedev to clinch a record-extending ninth Australian Open crown.

The Russian went into the final at Melbourne Park on the back of a 20-match win streak but found world No 1 Djokovic in ruthless form. The Serbian won 7-5, 6-2, 6-2 to claim an 18th Grand Slam title.

Another busy week of action in European football saw some breathtaking goals involving British teams. In the Champions League last 16 first leg, Olivier Giroud's spectacular overhead kick earned Chelsea 1-0 against Athletic Bilbao.

Spurs midfielder Dele Alli decided he needed to emulate Giroud's effort with his own superb overhead kick as his side thrashed Wolfsberger in the last-32 of the Europa League

Over in Italy, the evergreen Cristiano Ronaldo scored two in a 3-0 win after Juventus eased past Crotone in Serie A. That double meant 36-year-old Ronaldo leapfrogged Romelu Lukaku at the top of the Italian top-scorers list with 18 goals from 19 games.
