ABU DHABI // Students are getting the chance to compete in an international Formula 1 competition in Singapore - on a small, homemade scale. The Yas Marina Circuit has acquired the UAE franchise for F1 in Schools, which challenges students from nine to 19 to use software to design, build and race miniature Formula 1 cars made from balsa wood and powered by compressed air. So far, 15 schools are involved in the competition.
The circuit will host a national championship in early June, and the winning team will travel to Singapore in September for the world championship, where the prize is a scholarship to City University in London to study automotive and motorsport engineering. "F1 in Schools is a tremendous initiative that we are proud to support," said Khaldoon al Mubarak, the chairman of Yas Marina Circuit. "It gives UAE students a genuine opportunity not only to design and create a car, but also to develop an understanding of teamwork, organisation, business and finance."

Some restaurants, like Cupagahwa, are open from 8am for breakfast; most others start at noon. At the time of writing, we noticed that signs for Vicolo, an Italian eatery, and Kaftan, a Turkish restaurant, indicated that these two restaurants will be open soon, most likely this month. Parking is available, as well as a Dh100 all-day valet option or a Dh50 valet service if you’re just stopping by for a few hours.

Why your domicile status is important
Your UK residence status is assessed using the statutory residence test. While your residence status – ie where you live - is assessed every year, your domicile status is assessed over your lifetime.
Your domicile of origin generally comes from your parents and if your parents were not married, then it is decided by your father. Your domicile is generally the country your father considered his permanent home when you were born.
UK residents who have their permanent home ("domicile") outside the UK may not have to pay UK tax on foreign income. For example, they do not pay tax on foreign income or gains if they are less than £2,000 in the tax year and do not transfer that gain to a UK bank account.
A UK-domiciled person, however, is liable for UK tax on their worldwide income and gains when they are resident in the UK.

Refrigerator dough - Products such as canned biscuits and cinnamon rolls often contain trans fat, as do frozen pizza crusts.
Creamer and margarine - Nondairy coffee creamer and stick margarines also may contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils.
