It is all to play for this weekend in the UAE Rotax Max Challenge as the final two rounds of the series take place at the Al Ain Raceway with the chance to represent the UAE at stake for the respective champions of each class.

Al Ain will host the World Finals in November, when the best karting drivers from other countries will all converge on the track to discover who is the best in the world.

The DD2 class has been the most unpredictable category this season and will be where most of the attention is, with three drivers in position to take the title.

Mohammed al Dhaheri, the Emirati who won the title last year and represented the UAE in the finals last autumn, leads the way on 851 points. He is followed by Patrick Jarjour on 762, with Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa on 733.

The season, which has also seen races at Yas Marina Circuit and at Dubai Autodrome, is climaxing with a double-header, with championship races today and tomorrow.

Guy Sheffield, the managing director of Al Ain Raceway, said everything was ready for an exciting weekend of racing.

A rule that allows drivers to deduct the points for their worst finish in a main race and worst finish in a pre-final race will shake up the points totals a little.

"It is nicely set up and it has been a good season," Sheffield said. "In the DD2 Mohammed al Dhaheri has a slight of advantage, but with the drivers having to [give up] some points with losing their worst results it is going to change things and it is a lot closer than the standings look at the moment."

Today's race takes place on the shorter national circuit design, which comes in at 900 metres in length, with tomorrow's final race of the season on the grand finals circuit, at 1,400m.

In competition this weekend, Maurits Knopjes leads Sanad al Rawahi in the Senior Max Class, and Andrew Fuller has a narrow lead over Walid al Qassemi in the Max Master category.
