Indy Lights champion Ed Jones makes return to Dubai Kartdrome for Sodi World Series

Ed Jones, the recently crowned Indy Lights champion, made a return to his home track on Monday as the latest round of the Sodi World Series (SWS) Sprint Racing took place at Dubai Kartdrome.

Jones, a multiple UAE kart champion, secured the Indy Lights Series in September and is guaranteed a spot on the grid at the 2017 Indianapolis 500.

The Briton took part in the SWS Senior category (age 15-34) and despite starting sixth on the grid for Race 1, quickly cut through the field to clinch victory ahead of Rami Azzam by 0.238 seconds.

Race 2 went the way of Hussain Umid Ali, the victory enough for him to take top honours on the night, with Jones claiming the runner-up prize. Rami Azzam took home third.

“It was difficult but I was driving well, I had a good kart and I tried very hard,” Hussain said. “Against this competition, these guys have more experience, but I think I did well today.”

Earlier in the evening, Seif Al Naggar prevailed in the SWS Juniors (age 7-14) ahead of Kamal Agha in second and Jad Charafeddine third.

In the Masters subcategory of Seniors (ages 35 and older), Gianluca Elmosi claimed victory over pre-race favourite Mohammed Ismail Ali. Dario Rubio followed up in third. All three drivers were level on points at the end of the night and it was only their qualifying positions that settled the tie and determined the trophies.

The next SWS Sprint Race will be at Dubai Kartdrome on Monday, 24 October 2016.

How Beautiful this world is!

Dr Amal Khalid Alias revealed a recent case of a woman with daughters, who specifically wanted a boy.

A semen analysis of the father showed abnormal sperm so the couple required IVF.

Out of 21 eggs collected, six were unused leaving 15 suitable for IVF.

A specific procedure was used, called intracytoplasmic sperm injection where a single sperm cell is inserted into the egg.

On day three of the process, 14 embryos were biopsied for gender selection.

The next day, a pre-implantation genetic report revealed four normal male embryos, three female and seven abnormal samples.

Day five of the treatment saw two male embryos transferred to the patient.

The woman recorded a positive pregnancy test two weeks later.

Kat Wightman's tips on how to create zones in large spaces

  • Area carpets or rugs are the easiest way to segregate spaces while also unifying them.
  • Lighting can help define areas. Try pendant lighting over dining tables, and side and floor lamps in living areas.
  • Keep the colour palette the same in a room, but combine different tones and textures in different zone. A common accent colour dotted throughout the space brings it together.
  • Don’t be afraid to use furniture to break up the space. For example, if you have a sofa placed in the middle of the room, a console unit behind it will give good punctuation.
  • Use a considered collection of prints and artworks that work together to form a cohesive journey.
Expert advice

“Join in with a group like Cycle Safe Dubai or TrainYAS, where you’ll meet like-minded people and always have support on hand.”

Stewart Howison, co-founder of Cycle Safe Dubai and owner of Revolution Cycles

“When you sweat a lot, you lose a lot of salt and other electrolytes from your body. If your electrolytes drop enough, you will be at risk of cramping. To prevent salt deficiency, simply add an electrolyte mix to your water.”

Cornelia Gloor, head of RAK Hospital’s Rehabilitation and Physiotherapy Centre

“Don’t make the mistake of thinking you can ride as fast or as far during the summer as you do in cooler weather. The heat will make you expend more energy to maintain a speed that might normally be comfortable, so pace yourself when riding during the hotter parts of the day.”

Chandrashekar Nandi, physiotherapist at Burjeel Hospital in Dubai
