Getaneh Molla has won the men's 2019 Dubai Marathon ahead of Herpassa Kitesa as Ruth Chepngetich dominated the women's race.

The event, which began at 6am on Umm Sueim Road, became a two-horse race in the closing stages in the men's competition.

But it was Molla who had the stronger finish as he triumphed in a time of 2 hours, 03 minutes and 34 seconds to defeat fellow Ethiopian Negasa and set a new course record in the process.

The women's race was controlled by Kenyan Chepngetich, who won in a time of 2 hours, 17 minutes and 07 seconds, which was also a new course record.

Her nearest challenger Worknesh Degefa was 34 seconds adrift in second spot.
