The UFC returns to Abu Dhabi this September after a five-year hiatus, with undefeated lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov headlining in the capital.

UFC 242, which sold out its initial batch of tickets earlier this month in less than 96 hours, takes place on September 7 at the specifically constructed The Arena on Yas Island.

Last week, The National was given an exclusive tour of the venue site, with construction on the 13,000-plus arena expected to be completed midway through August.

Here we provide renderings of what the venue will look like once finished, as supplied by local organisers, the Department of Culture and Tourism - Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).

Particular care has been taken to ensure the capital's fight fans are close to the action, no matter where they are located. As the pictures portray, it seems mission accomplished.
