The coronavirus pandemic has seriously affected life across the globe and the world of sport has been hit hard.

All major sporting events have been called off or postponed with very few competitive matches going on.

Below is a list of matches and tournament that have been impacted by the pandemic.

Football

Uefa postpone Euro 2020 finals until June 11-July 12 next year.

Conmebol postpone the Copa America until next year.

Serie A matches, and all sporting events in Italy, suspended.

All top-level football matches in England, including the Premier League, suspended until April 4.

Germany's Bundesliga and second division will pause at least until April 2.

Uefa postpones all Champions League and Europa League matches due to take place between March 17-19.

The Confederation of African Football postpones two rounds of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers - March 25-31.

The top two tiers of French football – Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 – suspended.

US Major League Soccer suspends season.

All football in the Netherlands suspended until the end of March.

Fifa and the Asian Football Confederation agree to postpone Asian World Cup qualifying matches in March and June.

Horse racing

The Grand National festival due to be held from April 2 to April 4 has been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Jockey Club said in a statement on Monday.

Rugby

Four Six Nations matches postponed.

The Singapore and Hong Kong legs of the World Rugby Sevens Series postponed from April to October.

Rugby Europe announces suspension of all its matches and tournaments from March 13-April 15.

France's rugby federation suspends all competitions.

WTA Tour suspended until May 2 and tournaments in Stuttgart, Istanbul and Prague will not be held as scheduled.

Championships, scheduled  to take place in Uzbekistan on April 16-25, is cancelled.

The French Open tennis tournament has been postponed until September 20-October 4.

North America

The NBA suspends its season.

The NHL suspends its season.

The MLB further delays its 2020 season's opening day of March 26.

Boston Marathon organisers postpone the race from April 20 to September 14.

The NHL has told players, including those from outside North America, they can return home and should self-quarantine through March 27.

Other sports

Fina cancels all international water polo events over the next three months.

International archery has been suspended until April 30, which will affect qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The World Athletics Indoor Championships (Nanjing, March 13-15) are postponed.

Paris and Barcelona marathons postponed.

The London marathon (April 26) postponed to October 4.

THE FUTURE 

Tournament organisers are keeping a close eye on the outbreak and there is every chance major events scheduled for later in the year could feel the impact.

The Olympics are set to begin in Japan on July 24 and there is a real danger of the Games getting cancelled.

Euro 2020 is scheduled to be the first pan-continental competition. With almost all European host nations having confirmed cases of the virus, the tournament could be pushed to later in the year. The tournament is scheduled to begin on June 12.
