Karim Al Azhari warned rivals battling for honours in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Middle East that they have yet to see the best of him, teammate Clemens Schmid and their Al Nabooda Racing team.
Schmid won the two opening races of the season in Bahrain last month, leading every lap of both events, to start his championship title defence in perfect fashion, while Al Azhari experienced a more mixed weekend, finishing fourth and 10th.
On Friday, the UAE-based team are competing at the Dubai Autodrome in the third and fourth rounds of the season.
Al Azhari believes he can move on from the issues that hurt him in Bahrain.
“I had some issues with the front tyres, and now I have to look at the data from the whole weekend in Bahrain and work with my engineers to iron out any problems,” he said.
“Because the competition is so strong, you need to be very accurate in everything you do. A small mistake moves you down the field very quickly. You need to be sharp and seize an opportunity when it presents itself.”
The Emirati is targeting a podium finish in Dubai, but he also expects another big display from Schmid this weekend at a circuit where he won twice when the series visited last season.
“Clemens may be young, but he’s a very mature driver and I just expect him to get better,” Al Azhari said.
“He has huge potential. He proved again in Bahrain how good he is, and if he continues like this, he’s going to make a lot more headlines in the international arena.
“He looks cool, and he really is that way. We spend a lot of time together for the week when we’re racing here, and he’s always very relaxed.
“It’s not an act that he puts on. That’s a great advantage to have when the racing is so intense, as it is now in this series.”
Schmid holds a lead of four points over Kuwaiti Zaid Ashkanani, who twice finished second in the Bahrain races.
After testing at the Autodrome tomorrow, official practice takes place on Thursday and is followed by two qualifying sessions.
Schmid is aiming to repeat his success in Bahrain, where he claimed pole position for both races, setting up his victory charge.
The two 14-lap races will take place on Friday afternoon.

Plan to boost public schools
A major shake-up of government-run schools was rolled out across the country in 2017. Known as the Emirati School Model, it placed more emphasis on maths and science while also adding practical skills to the curriculum.
It was accompanied by the promise of a Dh5 billion investment, over six years, to pay for state-of-the-art infrastructure improvements.

Will the pound fall to parity with the dollar?
The idea of pound parity now seems less far-fetched as the risk grows that Britain may split away from the European Union without a deal.
Rupert Harrison, a fund manager at BlackRock, sees the risk of it falling to trade level with the dollar on a no-deal Brexit. The view echoes Morgan Stanley’s recent forecast that the currency can plunge toward $1 (Dh3.67) on such an outcome. That isn’t the majority view yet – a Bloomberg survey this month estimated the pound will slide to $1.10 should the UK exit the bloc without an agreement.
New Prime Minister Boris Johnson has repeatedly said that Britain will leave the EU on the October 31 deadline with or without an agreement, fuelling concern the nation is headed for a disorderly departure and fanning pessimism toward the pound. Sterling has fallen more than 7 per cent in the past three months, the worst performance among major developed-market currencies.
“The pound is at a much lower level now but I still think a no-deal exit would lead to significant volatility and we could be testing parity on a really bad outcome,” said Mr Harrison, who manages more than $10 billion in assets at BlackRock. “We will see this game of chicken continue through August and that’s likely negative for sterling,” he said about the deadlocked Brexit talks.
The pound fell 0.8 per cent to $1.2033 on Friday, its weakest closing level since the 1980s, after a report on the second quarter showed the UK economy shrank for the first time in six years. The data means it is likely the Bank of England will cut interest rates, according to Mizuho Bank.
The BOE said in November that the currency could fall even below $1 in an analysis on possible worst-case Brexit scenarios. Options-based calculations showed around a 6.4 per cent chance of pound-dollar parity in the next one year, markedly higher than 0.2 per cent in early March when prospects of a no-deal outcome were seemingly off the table.

Types of fraud
Phishing: Fraudsters send an unsolicited email that appears to be from a financial institution or online retailer. The hoax email requests that you provide sensitive information, often by clicking on to a link leading to a fake website.
Smishing: The SMS equivalent of phishing. Fraudsters falsify the telephone number through “text spoofing,” so that it appears to be a genuine text from the bank.
Vishing: The telephone equivalent of phishing and smishing. Fraudsters may pose as bank staff, police or government officials. They may persuade the consumer to transfer money or divulge personal information.
SIM swap: Fraudsters duplicate the SIM of your mobile number without your knowledge or authorisation, allowing them to conduct financial transactions with your bank.
Identity theft: Someone illegally obtains your confidential information, through various ways, such as theft of your wallet, bank and utility bill statements, computer intrusion and social networks.
