NHL: Perry signs new deal as Ducks set home wins record

The Anaheim right wing has agreed a new eight-year deal with the side to follow in the footsteps of captain Ryan Getzlaf, who inspired his team to a 5-3 win over San Jose.

The Anaheim Ducks have agreed on terms to re-sign right wing Corey Perry, matching the commitment they made to captain Ryan Getzlaf earlier this month.

Perry, who has spent his entire NHL career with the Ducks while playing alongside Getzlaf, will sign an eight-year contract, reportedly worth $69 million (Dh253.4m), to equal the length of Getzlaf's latest deal.

"It was definitely a huge factor that he [Getzlaf] did stay here and he's committed here," Perry said.

"I called him last night right away when I found out what was going to happen. It's an exciting time for both of us."

Getzlaf secured the winner for the Ducks in their franchise-record 12th straight home win last night, as they edged a 5-3 victory over the San Jose Sharks.

Perry is currently serving a four-game suspension for an illegal hit last week that is scheduled to end on Wednesday.

He is among the Ducks team leaders with nine goals and 15 assists as Anaheim is on top of the Pacific Division with 46 points.

The 27-year-old Perry also helped lead the franchise to a Stanley Cup in 2007 while capturing the Hart Trophy in 2011.

Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews each had a goal and two assists as the Chicago Blackhawks ran out convincing 5-2 winners against the Colorado Avalanche.

Jimmy Hayes, Andrew Shaw and Brent Seabrook were also on target for Chicago, while goaltender Ray Emery made 17 saves to ensure the Blackhawks gained revenge for their 6-2 loss against the Avalanche at the Pepsi Center earlier this month.

Elsewhere, the New York Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 shoot-out triumph over the Carolina Hurricanes at Madison Square Garden.

Rookie JT Miller looked to have fluffed his lines when he lost the puck, but regained control and netted from a tight angle. Rick Nash also scored for New York in the shoot-out, Henrik Lundqvist made 29 saves through 65 minutes and two more in the tiebreaker.

The Dallas Stars also enjoyed a welcome return to winning ways, ending a four-game losing run with a 4-3 success against the Calgary Flames.

Loui Eriksson grabbed a brace, with Erik Cole and Eric Nystrom also on the scoresheet as the Stars provided the perfect response to Saturday's 8-1 thrashing at the hands of Chicago at American Airlines Center.

Jonathan Quick produced 27 saves for his first shutout of the season in the Los Angeles Kings' 4-0 win against the Phoenix Coyotes. Jake Muzzin, Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter bagged the goals for the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Tampa Bay Lightning saw off the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2, Teddy Purcell grabbing the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, while rookie Charlie Coyle netted the go-ahead goal 3:20 into the third period as the Minnesota Wild took sole possession of top spot in the Northwest Division with a 4-1 win against the Vancouver Canucks.
