Monday’s cover: Sergio Garcia a tower of strength to win Dubai Desert Classic

Sergio Garcia's march to the Omega Dubai Desert Classic title is the main story on The National Sport front page on Monday, February 6.

Garcia completed a wire-to-wire victory with a 19-under par 269 and never looked troubled during Sunday’s final round. The Spaniard’s nearest challenger was playing partner Henrik Stenson, but even Europe’s top golfer could not stop Garcia from comfortably winning the Dallah Trophy, the Swede finishing three shots adrift.

The National's John McAuley was at Emirates Golf Club on Sunday to witness Garcia's victory.

Elsewhere, it was a tournament to remember for UAE-based amateur Rayhan Thomas, who made the cut in just his third European Tour event. The 17-year-old Indian was paired with US Masters champion Danny Willett for his final round.
