Amjad Javed and Mohammed Shahzad took three wickets apiece and Swapnil Patil hit a half-century to lead a UAE XI to a two wicket victory against England Lions at the ICC Academy in Dubai.
Batting first, England Lions posted 222 from their 50 overs, with Hampshire batsman James Vince top-scoring with 58.
The visitors were on the ropes when the UAE reduced them to 97-6, although a brisk 57 from Somerset’s Jamie Overton at the bottom of the order stabilised the England innings.
In reply, the UAE got off to the ideal start, posting a half-century stand between openers Mohammed Kaleem (37) and Shahzad (35) before Laxman Sreekumar (34) and Patil (50) took the hosts to 164-3.
A faltering middle order allowed England Lions back into the contest as the UAE were reduced to 185-5 before a 38-run partnership from Rohan Mustafa (20) and Ahmed Raza saw the home side over the line with two balls to spare.
The UAE’s victory ensures the two warm-up games end with one win each as England Lions now prepare to face Pakistan A in a five-match series.
