Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah has signed a new five-year contract with Liverpool, the Premier League club confirmed Monday.

The striker arrived at in England from Roma last summer for a fee of around £39 million (Dh188m). He gained the admiration of fans around the world after scoring 44 goals in 52 appearances, the second-best record in the club's history.

Salah's World Cup was short lived. After sustaining a shoulder injury in the first minutes of the Champions League final, the Egyptian was on the bench for their first game.

The striker played in two of the games, but his World Cup campaign was cut short after Egypt failed to qualify for the last 16, finishing bottom on Group A with no points.
