Californian driver Alexander Rossi has been registered to make his Formula One debut this weekend as Marussia look for positives at a race being held under a dark cloud.
Much of the paddock continues to come to terms with the accident that last week left Jules Bianchi requiring brain surgery.
Marussia, Bianchi’s team, have yet to officially decide whether to run only one car or allow Rossi his debut, but they have registered the American to ensure he is legally allowed should they opt to run both cars.
Teams are contractually obliged to race two cars at each race, but it is understood Marussia have been in contact with F1’s rights holder to confirm there would be no fallout should they decide to run only Max Chilton.
Bianchi’s name will remain above his pit garage regardless, but Rossi, 23, who has driven in practice for Caterham, is permitted to race should Marussia confirm his drive.
