English football columnist Richard Jolly names his Best XI in the Premier League for the August 15-16 weekend, including a trio of Manchester City standouts.
Striker: Sergio Aguero (Manchester City). The Argentine mounted a one-man attack on the Chelsea goal, culminating with the crucial opener in City's emphatic win.
Centre-back: Vincent Kompany (Manchester City). Two games, two goals. The City captain has been in fine form at both ends, scoring and helping them keep two clean sheets.
Left-back: Aleksandar Kolarov (Manchester City). Has started the season superbly and caused Chelsea problems with his overlapping runs and menacing crosses.
Goalkeeper: Hugo Lloris (Tottenham). Making his first start of the season, the Tottenham captain made two superb reaction stops from Stoke striker Mame Biram Diouf in the 2-2 draw.
Right-back: Steven Whittaker (Norwich). The Scot summed up Norwich's confidence by strolling through a static Sunderland defence to score his side's second goal in a 3-1 win.
Centre-back: Daley Blind (Manchester United). Looked assured in his new role as United restricted Aston Villa to few attempts on goal in their Friday night win.
Right winger: Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City). For the second successive Saturday, Mahrez scored and Leicester won. West Ham can testify to his excellence.
Centre midfield: Ross Barkley (Everton). Scored only two league goals last season, but Barkley already has equalled that tally after a fine finish in Everton's 3-0 victory over Southampton.
Centre midfield: Santi Cazorla (Arsenal). Restored to the centre of midfield, the Spaniard was the most influential player on the pitch in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.
Left winger: Jefferson Montero (Swansea). Last week Branislav Ivanovic could not handle the electric Ecuadorian, This week it was Daryl Janmaat, who was sent off for fouling Montero.
Striker: Romelu Lukaku (Everton). The Belgian was at his unplayable best as he scored twice and dominated the Southampton defence in Everton's counter-attacking masterclass.
